Today I’m excited to announce that we’ve raised a $1M seed round to grow our flagship product, Patient IO. The round was led by Mercury Fund, with participation from our customers Corinthian Health Services, Arcadia Home Care, and 17 angels across healthcare and enterprise. This funding arrives in addition to $160K raised during our participation in Techstars Austin last fall.
Patient IO helps health professionals deliver personalized care plans from their desktop directly to their patients’ smartphones. This allows patients to receive treatment-specific tasks, reminders and educational content between doctor visits, enabling patient self-care and new insights on patient wellness and adherence outside the clinic.
And the best part of today’s post is that I have much to share beyond a funding announcement. Patient IO is enterprise ready, patients love it, and available now. We’ve been live within Corinthian’s 20 clinics for the past two months, guiding their patients through their pre- and post-infusion care plans. Patient IO launches next month within Arcadia, empowering their caregivers with mobile care plans inside the patient’s home.
We believe Patient IO is a critical piece of infrastructure necessary to support a fully accountable healthcare system. Mobile care plans create informed, accountable patients, contributing to improved outcomes and decreased costs for accountable health care providers. With this funding, we will continue to modernize paper-based care plan programs and bring them into the digital era through the Patient IO platform.
The Future of Patient IO
The majority of the funds will go towards growing our existing team of incredible engineers. At our core, we are a technology organization with a passion for mobile, platform design, and healthcare, and today’s funding will continue to fuel that ethos.
Looking into the future, we will be investing heavily in two areas to make care plan delivery even more seamless. The first of which is bringing additional patient touchpoints to our platform. Today, Patient IO supports mobile delivery of care plans via beautiful iOS and Android apps, but we recognize that not every patient has a smart device. With today’s funding, we’re expanding support to mobile-web and email touchpoints to allow Patient IO to communicate with patients anywhere life takes them.
The second area is building a robust, standards-based API for syncing Patient IO with enterprise healthcare systems. Besides the obvious practical value of API-first platform design, we’ve seen a TON of care plans, and are poised to help the healthcare industry define a robust, standards-based approach for communicating care plan data between health providers.
Today marks an important milestone in our journey, and will be the first of many more to come. Patient IO is a revolutionary component of the our industry’s transition to accountable care, and we are rallied behind our vision of defining how healthcare communicates with patients outside the clinic.
